Red Cloud’s War

Screen Shot 2014-12-28 at 11.35.50 PMOn December 21, 1866, Lakota, Cheyenne, & Arapaho warriors dealt the US military a devastating defeat at the Battle of the Hundred Slain. The battle was a part of what is called Red Cloud’s War from 1866-1868, which ended in the defeat of the US military leading to the signing of the 1868 Ft. Laramie treaty.

All US military forts throughout the Powder River region were burnt down. At the time of the signing of the treaty it was expressed that “For the first time in its history the United States Government had negotiated a peace which conceded everything demanded by the enemy and which extracted nothing in return.
