[English Subtitled Film] El Violin

English Translation:

The violin is the story of octogenarian Plutarco, his son Genaro and his grandson Lucio, who lead double lives; rural musicians and farmers, but also supporters of guerrillas who plan to take up arms against the oppressive government of Mexico and its Dirty Wars. When the army reaches their village, the guerrillas  are forced to flee leaving behind ammunition and hiding in the forest. With the innocent appearance of an old musician, Don Plutarco Hidalgo (played by Ángel Tavira) has a plan to recover the weapons hidden on his plot of corn.

Unist’ot’en Camp Evicted a Fracked Gas Pipeline Crew from their Territories

From Vice

The Unist’ot’en Camp, a pipeline blockade on unsurrendered indigenous land in the interior of BC, peacefully evicted a pipeline crew that was found trespassing in their territories earlier this week. The crew was conducting preliminary work for TransCanada’s Coastal GasLink pipeline project, which the company hopes will carry fracked gas from north eastern BC to Canada’s pacific coast.

Where the eviction took place, multiple fracked gas and tar sands pipelines have been planned without consent from the Unist’ot’en clan. The clan has never surrendered their lands, signed treaties, or lost in war to Canada or BC. Under a system of governance that predates Canada by thousands of years, the Unist’ot’en have taken an uncompromising stance: All pipelines are banned from their territories. Continue reading

Israeli Brutality Intensifies Palestinian Solidarity

By Existence is Resistance

Palestinian City of Haifa
July 18, 2014

I have been to many protests in my life, gassed, shot at with rubber bullets, sprayed with skunk water, attacked by counter protesters but never in my 33 years have I ever witnessed firsthand the violent rampage that Israeli police unleashed on demonstrators in Haifa yesterday.

During the ongoing slaughter in Gaza, inflicted upon the Palestinian people by the terrorist state of Israel, Palestinians (not “Arab Israelis” – I will explain this later) living in occupied ’48 territories have been protesting non-stop to show their solidarity for their fellow Palestinians being brutally massacred in large numbers just a few hours away. The despair, pain and helplessness felt by all is extremely visible.

Yesterday I joined a demo in my hometown city of Haifa. Family members were with me among a long stream of familiar faces. People brought their children, young sisters and brothers and even elderly to join in voicing our disgust at the ongoing brutal attacks on our people in the worlds largest open air prison, Gaza.

As we drove to the gathering point I could see hundreds of Israeli police positioned in different areas and side roads. There were two massive sanitation looking trucks which spray “Skunk” water (It is a mix of chemicals that has the most awful odor that can last weeks on ones body and almost impossible to remove from clothes).

As we began marching down the mountain on the main street we could see up ahead a barrier of police, fingers on their triggers. We continued down past them and made our way to a T junction at the top of a street they call “Ben Gurion Street” which, I would like to add, has been there from before “Ben Gurion” was even born and the true name of it is “German Avenue” built by the Germans in 1868. Screen Shot 2014-07-21 at 6.10.04 PM

Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Google have actively suppressed videos of Palestinians cutting down power lines to a settlement west of Ramallah.

On Monday July 21st people woke up to find various posts had been deleted from social media sites. This post in particular was wiped off a number of sites, but seems to be viewable from the original source. A number of social media users who shared the post however had their accounts deleted without warning.

Here are a couple links to where the video can be viewed:

Direct Action Gets the Goods…

Israel to coordinate with Google, YouTube, to censor Palestinian videos of conflict

The Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister, Member of Knesset Tzipi Hotovely, held meetings this week with representatives of YouTube and Google, to find ways of cooperating to censor Palestinian videos from occupied Palestine, videos she dubbed as “inciting violence and terrorism”, as stated by IMEMC.

Israeli newspaper Maariv said Hotovely will be working with Google and YouTube officials in a joint mechanism that will be in charge of “monitoring and preventing” any publication of materials deemed by Tel Aviv to be “inflammatory.”
