Help spread the word about the “Free Alabama Movement” !

A prisoner’s movement is building inside multiple Alabama state prisons. The prisoners have taken up the strategy of non-violence and recording each other on smuggled-in cell phones. The video interviews are being posted on youtube (links below). In the videos, the prisoners speak of deplorable conditions, slave labor, prisons being a continuation of slavery and many candid stories from their lives inside and outside the cement walls of Alabama’s prisons:

From “The Free Alabama Movement “ :

” Free Alabama Movement knows that non-violence is not only our best strategy, but it is our only strategy capable of producing our desired goals. Why FREE ALABAMA MOVEMENT? Because we can’t expect to show that we are ready to return to society if we can’t prove that we are capable of resolving our issues and conducting ourselves as men without resorting to violence. The fact of the matter is that we have to use the technology that is available to us, as well as adjusting our strategies to the world we live in today, to improve our conditions. This will include using cellphones, video cameras and the internet to aid our Movement. And this Movement isn’t about getting “some outside support”, or having our family “call the politicians or mayor’s office”, “call the news station” and on and on and on. The reason for this is simple: we can’t form a movement conditioned on “outside” people without first unifying the “inside people”. ”

  1. I hope everything works out within our DOC. I know most if not all of those men committed some crime deserving incarceration, but Inhumane living conditions are not acceptable. How are they to become better men by abiding laws when hungry, or working ridiculously long hours. That would run the most sane.. insane. Inhumane living situations for grown men for no true apparent reason is not right and should not be tolerated. I’m just saying, from a loving sister hoping to help a loving brother subjected inhumane conditions within the infamous D O C . . . .

  2. It seems to me that our so called leaders need to revisit the meaning of “REHABILITATION” and spend some time with our Lord Jesus Christ and let him lead the way………..

  3. Just want to thank BayArea Intifada for covering our Movement and encouragin others to join in. Our first round of protests ended with much success in giving use invaluable informatiom and resources that we will employ going forward. We encourage ALL men and women incarcerated throughout the U.S. to organize non-violent and peaceful workstoppage protests. We are looking to organize and coordinate these activities, as wee as bring attention to our Bill that is drafted with the intent to end long-term warehousing without affording opportunities for education, rehabilitation and re-entry preparedness. Thanks again BAI, and please help connect us to Cali, Wash, Ariz., and the rest of the West Coast. . .FREE ALABAMA MOVEMENT
